Millwall have been handed an all-League One clash in the FA Cup after dispatching conference side Aldershot Town.

A brace from Gary Alexander and an Ashley Grimes goal put the Lions in the hat for the third round of the competition, where they will play either Carlisle United or Crewe Alexandra.

Kenny Jackett's side will also enjoy home field advantage for the tie, which will take place on the weekend of January 3 and 4. The Millwall manager was hoping to be paired with a Premier League side, but his team will fancy their chances of progressing against one of two teams currently located in the bottom half of the table.

Crewe Alexandra - who will face Millwall in the league in three weeks - are rock bottom of League One, while Carlisle are in 17th following a late 1-0 defeat at the Den on Tuesday.

The Lions increased their run of clean sheets to five in the second round tie on Saturday, with Aldershot unable to provide a killer finish in front of goal. The spectre of the feared FA Cup upset never really emerged as a trio of headers allowed Millwall to power into the next round, but the scoreline was possibly a little harsh on the combative and well-organised visitors.

Striker Gary Alexander was on hand to nod home on 30 minutes after connecting with David Martin's well-placed cross. The conference side's best chance came on the hour mark, when keeper David Forde failed to grab a corner, leaving Tony Craig to clear the ball off the line from Chris Blackburn.

Kenny Jackett pushed Chris Hackett into a more attacking role on the hour mark, and it was his cross on 77 minutes that allowed Alexander to give Millwall a two-goal cushion. And he looped the ball in again two minutes from time for Ashley Grimes to give the scoreline an even rosier hue.

Alexander passed up a chance to complete his hat-trick deep into stoppage time, but he blasted his shot over after latching onto an Aldershot backpass.
