Green Christmas

One thing I’ve never understood about Christmas – why do we have it in the middle of winter? Surely June or July would be much better, and then we could have barbecues and al fresco parties instead of huddling together for warmth.

As it is one of the clichés of Christmas presents down through the ages are those old standards – socks, jumper, hat and gloves, scarf.

There are a multitude of online and real world stores selling ethical clothes, but which are the best bet to keep you wrapped up warm this winter?

Howies has been a favourite with the cooler crowd for years now, and continue to offer ethical outfits with an outdoors feel. While you may not be a champion mountain biker or snowboarder you can at least pretend to have been braving the slopes with their stylish range of hoodies, jackets and hats.

If it’s more of an upmarket look you’re aiming for, Adili (www.adili.com) offers a range of different ethical labels from People Tree to Terra Plana.

Its website allows you to search not only by brand, but also by ethical credentials. So, for example, you can choose to view only cardigans made from organic materials, or only coats from factories certified as operating to Fairtrade working conditions.

Cash to spare? If the recession hasn’t bitten you yet and you still fancy a splurge there are some interesting eco fashionistas who will be more than happy to part you from your wallet. Luxury eco website Style Will Save Us (www.stylewillsaveus.com) has some amazing high end designs, including labels like Noir and Stella McCartney.

Just like to point people to Purity, www.puritystyle.com if you are looking for a green christmas. We have a great range of fairtrade and organic items for woman, kids and babies. And some rather unique accessories to go with them.

Have a great Greeen Christmas - the Purity team.
