Time is running out for Charlton's caretaker manager Phil Parkinson after a second defeat in a week.

The Addicks boss' hopes of getting the job full time were dealt a big blow in Tuesday night's 2-1 loss to Coventry at The Valley.

The Charlton side had just two changes from defeat at Blackpool with Izale McLeod and Matt Holland replacing Andy Gray and Jose Semedo.

The Addicks first chance came on six minutes when Deon Burton pulled his shot wide from 20 yards out, with McLeod just missing out on getting on the end of it.

Minutes later Jay McEveley's game was over when an arm injury saw him replaced at left back by Semedo.

Coventry were enjoying most of the possession without creating chances for the next period.

And it was Charlton who nearly opened the scoring when a Hameur Bouazza corner found the head of Mark Hudson but goalkeeper Kieren Westwood got down to save well.

Just moments later it was City who took the lead when a cross by Daniel Fox was fired in by Robbie Simpson.

Charlton were failing to control the ball and giving it away with ease. It looked as if they could not wait for the half-time whistle.

Parkinson made no changes at the break and to his loyalty paid off when Charlton equalised within minutes.

Izale McLeod raced through and got in front of Fox only for the big defender to trip him in the box.
Burton's penalty went in off the post to level the scores.

That didn't last long and with just five minutes of the half gone City were back in front when the impressive Fox made amends by firing in a superb free-kick from 35 yards that went in off Nicky Weaver's upright.

The tempo of the game was dying down again, so Parkinson brought on both Andy Gray and Svetoslav Todorov.

Referee Dean Whitestone was not endearing himself to the Charlton fans with some wayward decisions.

But Charlton weren't helping themselves either and struggled to get a shot on goal until Matt Holland curled one wide on 85 minutes and Todorov forced a save from Westwood moments later.

City held on for the win and Charlton's disastrous run continues.
