Singing sensation Bob Dylan will have his legion of devoted fans rushing to The O2 when he plays the venue next year.

The American music icon, whose recording career stretches back to 1962, will play the arena on Saturday, April 25, as part of his European tour.

Anyone expecting straight run-throughs of the likes of Blowin’ In The Wind, Like A Rolling Stone or Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door might be in for a surprise but there is no denying Dylan’s lasting influence on modern popular music.

His main impetus has always been live performance, notching up at least 100 shows a year across the world every year.

As he once said: “A lot of people can’t stand touring but to me it’s like breathing. I do it because I’m driven to do it.

Dylan has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in recent years after releasing several critically acclaimed albums, the latest of which was 2006’s Modern Times, and last year was the subject of a film, I’m Not There, which starred Heath Ledger and Cate Blanchett – among others – as the singer.

Chief executive of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2, David Campbell said: “Bob Dylan is a hugely influential singer/songwriter, we are honoured to have one of the all time greats play The O2.

Tickets are available from www.theo2.co.uk or by calling 0844 856 0202.

Bob Dylan's music is great but the last couple of times that I've seen him live have been rather disappointing. His performances of his older material are often so strange it is hard to work out what songs they actually are supposed to be. He seems to be more faithful to the newer material. Maybe playing all those old hits for so long has become a bit of a chore to him? At least this is a brilliant venue to see him at and the sound is always second to none.

Whatever your opinion is, there's no denying that the man is a genius. The recently released Tell Tale Signs album is all the proof you need.
