BA invest in new aeroplanes for City Airport

British Airways has announced it is making a huge investment in aircraft for flights at London City Airport.
The airline's subsidiary BA CityFlyer held a press conference on Monday morning announcing the purchase of 11 new energy efficient jets.
At a cost of $376million, the aircraft will fly exclusively from the Royal Docks airport from September 2009.
The airline has made orders for six Embraer 170 and five Embraer 190SR efficiency jets, known as E-Jets. It also has options on another three.
Managing director of BA CityFlyer Peter Simpson said: "This significant investment in new aircraft further demonstrates British Airways' commitment to services into and out of London City for our customers.
"Having the combination of the Ebraer 170s and 190SRs in the same fleet will give us greater flexibility, enabling us to match capacity with demand on routes within our existing and future network."
The investment will replace the current fleet of 10 Avro RJ100 and two RJ85 aircraft.
The airline says the new jets are greener and estimates them to be up to 56 per cent more fuel efficient.
