You can never be too careful on the roads

Can you believe it’s nearly December?
At the time of writing, the weather report for the next few days was wintry indeed.
If it was nearer Christmas, I think we’d be looking at a white one.
Canary Wharf always looks very festive in December, and this year it will, I’m sure, be doing its best to provide cheer to Wharfers who may have more sobering thoughts on their minds.
But the terms “sobering and “cheer take on an even greater significance at this time of year – particularly when one’s ministerial responsibilities include road safety.
I’ve been getting a fair amount of media exposure, with the crucial issues of speeding, drink driving, drug driving, and seatbelts, all featuring strongly.
You have to be that bit more careful in the festive season, and nowhere is this truer than on the road.
You want to get from A to B to socialise, to buy your presents, to get your Christmas grub.
You’re in a hurry and you’re trying to avoid too much exposure to bad weather.
When it comes to travelling safely, you can never travel safely enough. So, be careful. Don’t take any chances.
Lastly, the Hammers will have to be careful, too, when they play Tottenham Hotspur on December 8.
Like Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer, Spurs were fast becoming outcasts among their peers.
Now, with Santa Harry in charge, they’re reinventing themselves.
I’m now looking for Gianfranco Zola to bring a little of la dolce vita to East London during the festive season.
