Charlton return to The Valley for the first time without Alan Pardew for the clash against Southampton on Saturday.

The squad of caretaker manager Phil Parkinson is set to include new signings Keith Gillespie, Deon Burton and Jay McEveley.

Parkinson hinted McEveley would start against Southampton at left back in place of Kelly Youga.

He said: "Kelly came back from Scunthorpe last year and was excellent. This year he has not been so consistent, but we know on his day Kelly can handle the level no problem."

The caretaker boss admitted both McEveley and Burton would be in the final 16, which means the forward is likely to start on the bench.

Parkinson left Nicky Bailey out of the squad for Tuesday's match against QPR, but may recall him on Saturday with Therry Racon likely to miss out with a knee injury.

He said: "His (Bailey's) performances had deteriorated to some extent and I just thought he needed to come out to sit back and have a look at things. I know when Nick comes back in the team, whether it's tomorrow or next week he'll be fine again.

"I just think he got caught up with a bit of negativity around the place and had taken too much on."

However, Matt Holland and Josh Wright are also pushing for selection.
