A frustrating derby draw left Millwall treading water while their rivals traded places at the top of League One.

The scoreless stalemate denied The Lions a chance to go level on points with new leaders Leicester City, who knocked Scunthorpe United off their perch with a 2-1 victory that same afternoon.

Millwall came into the game as one of the main contenders for promotion into the Championship next season, while Orient hovered perilously close to the League One drop zone. But a draw was a fair result in a game that was fast-paced but lacking that all-important finishing touch.

Leicester City and MK Dons both leapfrog Millwall into the automatic promotion spots, while Leeds United's 4-1 win over Hartlepool United makes the picture at the top all the more interesting. Millwall are now in fourth, two points off top spot but also two points away from dropping out of the play-off places altogether.

The Lions faced an Orient side who had secured three consecutive clean sheets, and Neil Harris' skied effort from a David Martin pass was the best the away side could conjure from their early possession. In fact, Millwall should have been one down on 31 minutes, as JJ Melligan collided with Alan Dunne in the area. Penalty claims were waved away, but the ball looped to Adam Boyd, who twisted past Lions goalkeeper David Forde to leave a seemingly-gaping goal. But his low-shot was blocked on the line by skipper Paul Robinson.

In a second half largely devoid of clear-cut chances, Millwall's best move was conjured up by Lewis Grabban, who stormed at the back-line from midfield before screwing his shot wide from 12 yards.

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett said: "My first impression was that a draw was a fair result. We started brighter and had the better of the first 20 minutes. Orient came back strongly but the second half fizzled out a little bit.
"There were not many chances at either end. I think Lewis Grabban had probably the best chance of the second half. Other than that there was little created by either side.
"From our point of view I am pleased with a clean sheet. I am pleased with the way we competed and defended.
"I feel we can do better and be more constructive in possession going forward to create more, but in the end a draw was a fair result."
