Ice rink offers a taste of "the great outdoors"

Want a taste of the great outdoors without leaving the Wharf this winter?
The Canary Wharf Ice Rink is set to slide into action on Saturday, offering Wharfers the chance to chill out and chow down in a brand new log cabin-style bar and restaurant.
The Moose Bar will feature three electric ambient fireplaces, a "rugged and outdoorsy" feel, and food and drink such as sausage and mash, Moosehead beer and the Amarula Cream-based Moose Milk tipple.
Skateco director and rink operator Brian Jokat said: "We've got a very warm and intimate setting this year, with very simple but filling and hearty foods.
"As a bar destination for the Wharf this winter, this is the closest you're going to get to the great outdoors in the city."
Local schools will again receive free training sessions on the ice, and 100,000 loyalty cards are being distributed to estate workers this week. Happy hours will run from 5pm to 6pm from Monday to Friday, and prices have been frozen to make the rink an even more attractive proposition for credit crunched workers.
This year's rink is sponsored by BGC Partners and the Canadian Tourism Commission, as well as The Wharf newspaper, Canary Wharf Group and Amarula.
It is scheduled to open from noon on Saturday, and will stay in Canada Square Park until February 22.
