Points were shared at The Valley as Charlton failed to win for the tenth game in a row.

It could have been so different for the Addicks if they had found a way past Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis during a first half onslaught.

Charlton's first real chance fell to Hameur Bouazza from 20 yards out but his shot was saved by Davis.

Southampton were passing well but failed to force a save out of Nicky Weaver until he got down well to a long range rocket from Rudi Skacel.

At the other end Keith Gillespie's side footer was saved by Davis' fingertips and then the keeper saved again from a close-range drive from Bouazza.

Charlton thought they had taken the lead seconds before the break but Davis somehow managed to push a Deon Burton overhead kick round the post.

The second started even with Saints playing shorts passes and Charlton going more direct.

The best chance of the exchanges saw Bouazza just fail to direct a Cranie cross on target and the ball bounced over.

However, Southampton were enjoying the majority of possession and were putting Charlton under pressure.

A fantastic double save by Weaver kept the scores level before Charlton nearly snatched it in injury time but Nicky Bailey shot over from the edge of the area.

After the match, Charlton's caretaker manager Phil Parkinson praised the fans for their support.

He said: "After the sort of performances we've had of late, the way they got behind the boys was first class and I'd like to thank them for that."
