Yoga the perfect stress cure
THESE are stressful times for everyone in Canary Wharf, with people increasingly looking for ways to ease the working woes brought on by the credit crunch.
For Francesca Muniesa the answer lies in yoga, and she hopes Wharfers will take the opportunity to forget their problems for an hour a week by taking part in classes she is running in Limehouse.
The 28-year-old, who lives in Wapping, has become a familiar face around Canary Wharf for the last three years, training clients at businesses including HSBC, Morgan Stanley and Clifford Chance.
And she now wants to encourage others outside the corporate structure to use yoga to help improve their quality of life.
She said: "A lot of people take up yoga as part of their training for things like the London Marathon, while others do it to improve their breathing.
"But whatever reason you do it for the benefits are great. Even doing the simplest movements and breathing techniques really improves how you feel.
"Just an hour a day gives you the chance to get away from your desk and forget those work worries for a bit."
Francesca has been practising yoga for 15 years and has travelled to San Francisco and India to expand her knowledge of the discipline. She believes Wharfers make particularly good students.
"People in Canary Wharf are always very focused and interested in what they are doing," she said.
"Most of them work such long hours in demanding jobs and use the sessions to help them relax but they always give it their all.
"And for me it's very rewarding to help them with it."
The yoga classes will be held at 6.30pm every Tuesday at the John Scurr Community Centre in Limehouse. For more information contact Francesca on yogafrancesca@googlemail.com.
