Spanish market is becoming attractive

Moving to Spain was all the rage for the over 50s five years ago, but could the fashion be coming back?
According to research by Cater Allen Private Bank, more people are looking at investing in property abroad.
In fact 10 per cent of the 18-to-34-year-olds asked said they were considering it.
Sales and marketing director for housebuilder Taylor Woodrow de Espana Victor Sague said: “We have certainly seen a shift in the ages of those looking to by a home in Spain.
“Traditionally our customers have been aged 45 or over but the interest we are getting from under 45s has increased – in fact 43 per cent of our inquiries this year have come from a younger age range.
Taylor Woodrow is the only major UK house builder in Spain and has noticed prices drop in response to demand lowering in recent years.
It is now becoming a more attractive proposition for those who were previously priced out of the market.
Mr Sague said: “For many buying a home and moving to Spain hasn’t been an option because house prices, especially in desirable locations such as Mallorca and the Costa del Sol, have been too high.
“In order to remain competitive in the current economic climate we have reduced prices on selected developments, opening up the possibility of overseas home ownership to a larger number of people.
While the financial situation today might not be a good time to swap your house for one abroad, Mr Sague suggests it does offer a good quality of life.
He said: “Living in Spain has many benefits.
“The country boasts a fantastic year-round climate, close proximity to the UK as well as excellent health care and a solid infrastructure, not to mention stunning beaches and beautiful countryside.
“All of these factors add to its appeal and when faced with the prospect of a cold and gloomy winter in the UK it’s not surprising people start to consider what life would be like in sunnier climes.
“In investment terms it’s true that the days of Spain’s rapid growth are long gone.
“And nobody is going to make money quickly.
“But as a long term investment, whether you want to relocate to Spain or buy a holiday home that can be enjoyed for years, Spain will take some beating.
The company has apartments at Lagunas del Sol in Rojales on the Costa Blanca for sale, priced from £105,465.
The apartments offer a collection of two and three bed townhouses with communal swimming pools and landscaped gardens.
