Mayor launches Phase Two of Excel

BUILDING work to expand the Excel centre began this week with Mayor Boris Johnson laying a commemorative stone.

Excavation has finished at the site and now construction, which will see space at the exhibition centre increased by 50 per cent when completed in 2010, can begin.

On Tuesday, October 7, the Mayor said the Excel development was an important part of the strategy for regenerating east London before the Olympics arrive.

He said: “This is not just a sign of what we can do with regeneration, it’s a sign of what the Olympics can bring to this part of London which has been neglected for decades.

“This is an area every bit as stuffed with Olympic events as the Stratford site itself.�
