DARREN Ambrose believes he is back to full fitness after three years of injury frustration.

The Charlton midfielder says he is now raring to go after a successful operation in the summer looks to have cured him of ongoing groin problems.

The 24-year-old made his first start of the season in the defeat against Crystal Palace last week, before helping Charlton to a 2-1 win over one of his previous clubs Ipswich Town on Saturday.

His cross set up the winning goal in The Valley encounter and Ambrose hopes it will be a sign of things to come.

He said: “Last year, it was hard to do the things I wanted such as going in for headers.

“It all hurt and it’s been like that for three years. But now I’m back, I’m 100 per cent and I’m raring to go. Every player wants to play football and hopefully good things will come.

It was noticeable Ambrose was fading in matches last year and the club decided to end his season early in order to get him fully fit for this campaign.

The former Newcastle player went under the knife of top surgeon Richard Villar in April for a hip operation.

Ambrose said: “The physios said once we were out of the running for the play-offs I should get it done.

“I missed the last three games of the season and went in for the operation, which showed more damage than first expected.

“That was disappointing and I missed the first six or seven games but now I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

Ambrose said the side were delighted to get back to winning ways against Ipswich.

He said: “We were heartbroken in the dressing room after Palace, as upset as much as anyone. But we’ve got a lot of characters in the team and we bounced back.
