Head's return sparks protest
ISLE of Dogs parents are planning public action in a bid to block the return of a headteacher accused of shutting a child in a store cupboard.
Cubitt Town Infants School head Nikki Daly is making a "phased return" to her post after an internal inquiry was completed into last March's incident.
She was arrested in May last year after a complaint by one mother, but the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to pursue the case. Now a group of parents are planning to picket the Manchester Road school on Wednesday in a bid to force Ms Daly's removal.
Among them is Dawn Hanmore, who took her six-year-old son out of school after spotting the head's return on Thursday (October 2).
She said: "A lot of parents have asked that she doesn't deal with their children. My son refuses to go because he's terrified of her.
"I think she should be removed completely. She's abused her authority and shouldn't be allowed to walk straight back into her job. My son loves the school, and he's done nothing wrong in all this."
Ms Daly, 53, of Bow, had denied the charges, and was found not guilty of cruelty to a person under 16 at Snaresbrook Crown Court in February when the CPS offered no evidence against her.
The school conducted a joint investigation with Tower Hamlets Council after the case.
A statement from the council this week said: "Ms Daly was suspended from her role as headteacher at Cubitt Town Infants School after a reported incident to the authorities last year.
"The Crown Prosecution Service decided not to proceed with the case, and there are no outstanding charges to answer.
"The council and the governing body of the school have conducted a joint investigation into the incident and this investigation has now been concluded. There are no outstanding issues to be dealt with, and Ms Daly will now be making a phased return to the school."

Ms Nikki Daly has tranformed this school into a wonderful place for children to learn and enjoy life. These few rouge parents who are persisting to stand against her return with their 'solan' T shirts are embaressing themselves and the school. They obviously don't take into account how the other children who attend the school feel as they have to fight past them to get to class. If this handful of parents feel so strongly why don't they transfer their kids to another school?
I couldn't agree more. As a parent whose child attends the school I was mortified at these pathetic protestors as I took my child to school. Cubitt Town Infants' is a wonderful school and I for one was glad to see Ms Nikki's return last week. These parents who object to her return should take a look at their own behaviour before they pass judgements on others. The language I heard coming from one of the mothers as she was screaming at her own child last week was absolutely disgusting and certainly unprintable! I agree with anon ... my adive take your children and your abusive language to another school. We as the majority of parents won't miss you!
I agree with both of the above comments. Nikki Daly has done a fantastic job (along with the rest of the staff of course!) in improving the school and delivering impressive academic results. We should not under-estimate how much effort this takes and the level of commitment given by Nikki and her staff. The issues concerned seem to have been investigated by numerous authorities, so everyone should accept that the propar course of action has been taken. It's time for the small group of 'protesters' to shut up and fall in line with the overwhelming majority of parents who believe Cubitt Town Infant School is a fantastic school that will continue to thrive under Nikki Daly's excellent leadership.
As a mother of children who attend Cubbit Town school, Ms Nikki Daly should not be allowed to work with children again. It surprises me that certain people here brown nose a woman who has had these allegations against her. How would you feel if it was your child that was "apparently" put in a store cupboard?
As for the protesting, everyone is allowed an opinion, freedom of speech, so the protesters are right in having their opinion.
Why should the parents be told to transfer their children when the children are innocent?
I'd like to see how you'd react if it was your child in that situation. The protesters are trying to stop this from happening to your children.
I agree with the above message if they want to protest let them at least some of the parents want to their feelings displayed about this it is a shame not all the parents care about their childs welfare while at school. Then again those who say the protesters are pathetic and should basically put up and shut up are wrong.
When my children go to school i like to feel that they are safe from harm now i do not.To say take them out of school is harsh as it is not the childrens fault and they shouldn't have to suffer. this has been shoved under the carpet for to long and unsuspecting parents should be told what the headteacher of their childs school "apparently" did and if the few that don't agree with this want to moan about it then moan i for one am all for protesting and say well done as for the brown nosers shame on you!!!!!
For those who have not got the guts to say things to my face or even write their name.
