The O2 is set to be transformed into a winter wonderland next month when it hosts "The Slopes", London's first indoor artificial ski run.

Two 45 metre-long pistes will provide perfect powder for seasoned skiers and novices alike, with snowboarding and snowtubing also on offer.

Budding Franz Klammers can take advantage of coaching from the Warren Smith Ski Academy, while all gear will be supplied by K2.

The runs will be housed in The O2's London Piazza, which has previously hosted a beach and an ice disco. The alpine theme will be completed with snow covered trees and a ski chalet.

Niccy Halifax, the O2's head of special events, said: "The Slopes is a fun and safe way for both experienced skiers and snowboarders to gear themselves up for the real thing or as an introduction for complete beginners.

"The Slopes are designed for all abilities and the snow tubes are ideal for both small and big kids."

And apres-ski will be easy with all The O2's bars and restaurants right next door.

The Slopes will be open from the end of November until next January. Tickets cost £15 for an hour's skiing, £8 for 30 minutes snowtubing, while ski or snowboard rental costs £5.

They go on sale at 9am on Friday from www.theo2.co.uk or by calling 0844 856 0202.

As an ex seasonaire, for the individual thinking about doing it but not sure what all the hype is about, this is certainly a great way to find out.
