IT’S been 10 years since Nick Pegram had what he calls his “near missed connection.

A night of flirting with a beautiful Dutch girl in Covent Garden ended with him gaining her business card before they made their separate ways home.

Waking up the next morning with a muzzy head, Nick had no idea where he put the card.

Terrified at the thought of missing out on the girl of his dreams, he searched high and low but could not find the illusive card.

Nick considered using the bar’s CCTV footage or even heading to the Dutch embassy to track her down, before tipping the sofa upside down and seeing the card magically pop out.

Nick, 35, said: “It was a close call and it made me think about how you get in contact with someone you’ve met and lost.

“The frustration I experienced during the period when I couldn’t find the card got me thinking.

Nick is now married to Mariska, the mystery Dutch girl, and they have two children.

But that first meeting and the day which followed led to a business idea which Nick hopes can prove just as successful as his relationship.

Chancedit.com is a website Nick has launched which aims to give people a second chance at love.

People who get talking, exchange a smile or even a glance, but who regretfully don’t follow it up, log the details of the meeting into the site. Then they just wait and hope.

Nick, who regularly came to Canary Wharf for meetings in his previous job at Orange Business Services, believes the site is perfect for those living and working in built up places such as the Wharf and Docklands.

He said: “Being familiar with this area and having worked here, I think I can safely say this is a service people here would like to use.

“The profile is the Facebook generation who want to act on impulse, and that’s very much the demographic of the Canary Wharf person. It’s a very transient place, not just people working here but with a very international crowd passing through.

“There are a lot of circumstances that could lead to missed connections.

Whether your eyes met over a coffee at Starbucks or through the windows of the Jubilee Line, it’s best to act quickly.

Adverts for missed connections are only kept on the site for a month because, as Nick says: “There comes a time when everyone has to move on.
