Screen: Whispers

IT'S always amusing when a star turns down a role in a sequel, only to crawl back for the third film when their career explodes.
It happened to Sam Neill in Jurassic Park 3, and now dead-eyed action hero Vin Diesel, pictured, has returned to XXX3, just a few years after leaving Ice Cube to keep his seat warm.
Vin is in need of a hit after the disappointments of The Pacifier and Babylon AD. Will it be this one? Probably not.
Imagine you’ve got this script kicking around about a used car dealer who’s addicted to sex.
Who ya gonna call?
How about Michael Douglas, the former Basic Instinct star that was once treated for sex addiction and raised eyebrows with his marriage to Welsh starlet Catherine Zeta Jones?
Yup, film fans. Michael is on board for Solitary, playing a guy who’s marriage and business were torpedoed by his burning loins. Anyone who enjoyed his turn as an ageing hitman in One Night at McCool’s should be keeping an eye out for this one.
He’s not even out of office yet - but George W Bush can already wander down to the cinema to watch his very own biopic.
And luckily you can as well, thanks to the London Film Festival.
The 52nd BFI showcase features 189 features, including JFK director Oliver Stone’s take on the current US president in W.
Ron Howard is also in the political mood with Frost/Nixon, and there are bows for international hits and independent films.
The BFI London Film Festival runs from October 15 to 30.
