Jim Fitzpatrick - Back from holiday and back to work
So much for summer. We’re told it was both the wettest and hottest for decades. How does that work?
September means back to normal working after my two weeks’ holiday. The House may not be sitting but there’s work to do.
This Sunday (Sept 7) at midday, is Merchant Navy Memorial Day at Tower Hill. This began in 1998 and is now firmly in the calendar of remembrance.
The names of the 20,000-plus seafarers who died for our country are inscribed in the sunken garden there.
In sport, our Olympians were fantastic. West Ham United have made a reasonable start. Millwall Rugby and Millwall Albion FC are preparing for the new season. Lots to look forward to again.
My surgeries start again tomorrow (Sept 6) and I’ll be out door-knocking on Saturday mornings from this week, too, and I will be organising coffee mornings across the constituency in the months ahead.

Yesterday, I dealt with 533 emails, which were waiting for me to come back from hols.
Lastly, the Government has just unveiled a £1billion housing package to help first-time buyers get on the housing ladder, help homeowners, a stamp duty holiday for properties sold for under £175,000 from September 3 for one year and support for the house building industry.
No-one who works and plays by the rules should be left alone to bear the impact of the current squeeze in the global financial markets.
