Heroin haul for drugs officers
Report by Harry Low
POLICE have recovered around £45,000 worth of heroin in a raid on a Millharbour property.
Officers seized around a kilogram of the drug as well as bundles of money totalling more than £50,000 in one of the biggest heroin busts recorded in the borough.
The drugs warrant was carried out at 3.45pm on September 2 by a combination of the Tower Hamlets Drugs Focus Team, Millwall Safer Neighbourhoods team and the Tactical Tasking Unit. Two men were arrested at the scene.
Superintendent Steve Bending was pleased with the outcome and outlined the commitment to continue apprehending drug dealers.
He said: “It’s fair to say that this is a significant amount and one on the largest seizures in the borough.
“We’ve got a real commitment to tackling people that deal in drugs. It’s not just about tackling the street dealers but the operators as well.”
* On September 3, Shahid Ahmed, 24, from Coate Street in E2 and Ashraf Uddin, 23, from Teale Street were charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and proceeds of criminal property.
