THE folks from the Financial Ombudsman Service may have been brought together by their heads for figures.

But they showed off their fast fingers and versatile voices in their second annual music festival last weekend.

After a successful debut last August, Ombudsfest returned to the Isle of Dogs on Friday, showcasing bands linked to the South Quay Plaza organisation.

The event, which took place at Calders Wharf Community Centre on Saunders Ness Road, raised around £1,011.67 for the Richard House Children’s Hospice.

Co-organiser and performer Melissa Collett said: “It was really nerve-wracking to play in front of our colleagues, but ultimately it was about having fun and not taking things too seriously.

Ombudsman Melissa performed with co-organiser Rock and Roll Andy, aka adjudicator Andrew Hodgson.
Andrew also played with keyboardist Steve Moore, while fellow organiser Kevin Wright showcased his heavy rock chops in Rockzilla.

Other acts included experimental electro-poppers Acoustic Research Sonic Experiment.
Headliners Open Mind, , Rockzilla, No jurisdiction and DJ Jamie Collins.

Melissa said: “I’ve been playing for about a year, mostly at open-mic nights.
“I was in last year’s festival with a four-piece indie band.
“Last year was a real surprise success. But since then, we’ve been hearing about rockers who work for other financial institutions. We’ve been able to hook up and form new bands or just get together.
“There’s been so much interest that we reckon it should be a regular annual event.
