Steeds lined up for title showdown
THE date of Micky Steeds’ British title fight has been moved again, and the venue could be changing too.
Steeds was lined up for a crack at the cruiserweight crown against Robert Norton at the end of September but the date has now been fixed for Friday, October 3.
And the really good news for the Isle of Dogs fighter is that the boxing authorities are considering moving the venue for the bout from Norton’s native Wolverhampton to London – Steeds’ home turf.
His trainer Mark Roe told The Wharf: “It’s possible they could move it to the York Hall. Micky could sell 400 or 500 tickets with his following, whereas Norton would struggle to sell 100, even in Wolverhampton.
“It would make sense to move it down here and the organisers are seriously considering it. We’ll know what’s happening in the next couple of weeks.”
Regardless of venue or date Roe is adamant Steeds, a former heavyweight, is ready to fight.
“Micky’s in great shape,” he said. “He’s walking round at 14st 6lbs now, rather than having to train to get to the weight. It means he’s a natural cruiserweight now and that means he’s got a great chance for the title.”
