IT WAS "Ship Ahoy" for the Financial Services Authority when they left the office for the day to help in the community.

The company, based at The North Colonnade, gave staff time off to help at a sailing centre on the Deptford waterfront.

Jobs included painting the boats, varnishing decking and general tidying up at the AHOY Centre in Greenwich Reach.

Centre manager Mandy Corcora said: "The group was fantastic. All the work done on the day helps with the general running of AHOY. We hope to work with FSA again in the near future."

AHOY is a charity which has a sailing and boating centre which caters for all ages and abilities.

As well as providing a sailing experience it also lets members build and maintain the boats.

Victoria Storrar, leader of the FSA team, said: "It's great the FSA allows us to volunteer through the employee challenges scheme. Not only does it benefit us as a team, but it has clearly helped the centre which provides many benefits to the community."

Last week's event was co-ordinated by business2Community, a company specialising in getting business staff out of the office on team building exercises.
