LONDON City Airport hopes a partnership with Streetcar will boost its green credentials.

Bosses at the airport have signed a deal to offer dedicated spaces in its car park for the company which deals in car sharing.

Streetcar is the largest car club in the UK with more than 500 vehicles in London. Members can go online to book one of the Volkswagen Golfs from a convenient location.

Streetcar claims every one of its vehicles replaces about 20 privately owned cars as each of its shared Golfs has on average 40 users.

Airport chief executive Richard Gooding said: “At London City Airport we welcome schemes such as Streetcar. This is a convenient and environmentally friendly option for our local community, staff and passengers, making the airport even more user friendly.

The PR attempts of London City Airport sometimes make me cringe. They promote car sharing but want to increase the number of flights, which as we all know will result in high pollution and noise levels...

Richard Gooding talking about the environment. The two just don't go together...
