BIKERS paid their respects to the 52 victims of the 7/7 bombing with a ride across the capital.

Up to 1,500 motorcyclists began the journey at the Excel Centre in Docklands on Sunday, for the event, which raised thousands for charity.

Although hindered by roadworks across London, the procession made its way to the Memorial Gardens at Victoria Embankment where a wreath was laid for the victims of the 2005 terror attack.

One of the organisers of the Unity Ride, Tanya DeCastro, said: “It was a hugely successful day, with nearly 1,500 riders taking to the streets to raise money for Serv and Children in Need.”

Serv is a team of voluntary bikers who transport blood for operations between London’s hospitals.

Bike Medics, paramedics and the Automobile Association sent bikes to represent services where bikers can make a difference.

Ms DeCastro added: “There were lots of smiles and waves from bystanders and the bikes had fun hooting and waving back.

“We still haven’t counted all the money but it is in the thousands.”

The ride was initially organised in 2005 by staff at University College London, who lost colleague Gladys Wundowa in the bombings.
