52Jul10-Weightlifter-WEB.jpgA CANARY Wharf strongman has his sights set on lifting a world crown after recently proving himself the best powerlifter in Europe.

Mike Burt won the 75kg category at the World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation (WDFPF) competition in Castleblayney in Ireland last month.

The 33-year-old, who works at the Reebok Gym in Canary Wharf, beat 14 rivals after lifting a combined total of 540kg across the three disciplines of squat, bench-press and deadlift.

A full interview with Mike will appear in this week's edition of The Wharf, out on Thursday (July 10).

Well done mate, you did us all proud.
See you in the gym next week.

If you can win the Europeans with a total of 540 @ 75bw, I'm in the wrong federation. Guess what they say is true, drug-free lifters are weak - I have been competing with lifters @ 75bw who are squatting near to 300, bench near to 200 and DL 300 - a 540 total would get laughed out of the venue.
