DESIGNS for Canary Wharf's new Crossrail station have been unveiled to the public for the first time.

Canada Square Mall shoppers got a glimpse of the Foster and Partners design as part of a public exhibition.

The scheme will feature an open-air park, 100,000sq ft of retail, restaurants, cafes and bars.
The timber lattice roof will also feature translucent facades to attract natural light, and the station will also glow in the dark while operational.

The exhibition can be viewed at Poplar's Matthias Community Centre on today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) (July 15) and at the Museum in Docklands on Thursday and Friday this week.

Plans for the station itself will not be revealed until the Crossrail Bill receives royal assent as expected this summer. But the West India Dock-based station is set to be among the first to open on the £16billion London rail line when trains start rolling in 2017.
