DOCKLANDS is set to lose a major business and tourism attraction next month when the Sunborn Yacht Hotel leaves London

According to the press in Nigeria the ship moored in Royal Victoria Dock has been bought by the Lagos state government for £20million and will be moved to Africa on August 6.

A deal for the luxury hotel next to the Excel centre was apparently signed earlier this year.

The hotel’s managers are understood to be negotiating redundancy packages for staff affected by the boat’s transfer.

As well as being a popular hotel destination with 102 rooms and two royal suites, the Sunborn Yacht is used for conferences and parties.

The hotel is now taking bookings only up to August 2 on its website.

The Sunborn is one of the most unusual hotels in London as it is a floating hotel that does not sail. It is the first of four hotel yachts built by Sunborn International.

No-one from Sunborn International was available for comment.

When does the Lagos sunborn yatch hotel start operations? Has the hotel started receiving bookings/reservations? How much does a room go for and are there special promotional packages?

A highly commendable achievement by the Lagos State Government. It is hoped that concrete plans have been put in place for the continued maintenance of the yacht even after this present administration because this investment doesnt come cheap at all.

However , kudos to Mr. Fashola this is only a further confirmation of his class!

While the purchase of the yatch is enviable, how wise is the purchase at naira equivalent of over 5 billion when plenty of lagosians can’t afford descent roof over their heads after a rigorous hard day in the sun. From the Governor's perspective, how will the average lagosian benefit from this investment? Do these government people just think up these ideas and execute them without consideration off the people they govern!? When will we learn that Nigeria is not a dumping ground for the western man's trash?

This is a positive development, I really like what the governor of Lagos is doing, very proactive without all the lip service that many in government are fond of.
