Greenwich wheel project stalls
A BIG stick has been stuck in the spokes of Greenwich’s own miniature London Eye.
The Greenwich Wheel was due to launch this weekend but “logistical difficulties” means that the wheel has yet to be delivered from the Hague and the launch has been postponed. The launch was planned to tie in with the Greenwich and Docklands Festival.
A spokeswoman apologised and said: “The scheduled wheel launch will not go ahead and a new date for start of operation will be announced as soon as possible.”
When the 55-metre wheel arrives it will be located in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College until September 28.
The 40 gondolas will be available to anyone fancying dizzying views, as well as high-rollers eyeing up a special VIP champagne whirl.
A ride on the Greenwich Wheel will last approximately 12 minutes, with prices ranging from £7 for an adult and £4.50 for a child to £80 for a VIP gondola holding up to four people.
Companies looking to rise to the top can also sponsor a pod, with day or night branding available either on individual pods or on the entire structure.
