MARCUS Bent has admitted he wants a move back to the Premier League following his return to Charlton.

The forward spent last season on loan at Premiership side Wigan Athletic, after the Addicks’ relegation from the top flight in 2007.

Bent was expected to leave Charlton for the northerners on a permanent deal in the closed season, but the move never materialised and he is now heading back to The Valley for pre-season training.

He said: “I was expecting to be offered a contract by Wigan but it looks like that’s not going to happen.

“It’s disappointing as I thought I did okay last season, so it looks like I’ll be going back to Charlton when my loan ends.

Charlton may be keen to off-load the striker to avoid paying his top flight wages, and the player also revealed he is hoping for a move.

“If it’s a choice between Premier League and Championship then I’d choose Premier League, he said. “But it’s out of my hands at the moment.

I think he should stay at Charlton and help them get back to the Premier league.

If Marcus wanted to go to the premiership, why did he join Birmingham

I wish him all the best. He gave his best for us in training and during the course of a match.
