Boris is the burger king
KEN’S hot stuff, Boris is a bit cheesy and Brian is a chicken.
Not our views on the mayoral election candidates – but those of Gourmet Burger Kitchen at Canary Wharf, which has held an alternative poll.
The company had a burger for each of the favourites in today’s vote, allowing Londoners to judge with their stomachs.
Anna Sarba, manager at Gourmet Burger at Upper Bank Street in Canary Wharf, which is where the poll kicked off in April, said: “The Burger for Mayor poll is all about fun – it provides a side to the London mayoral elections that everyone can enjoy, even those who don’t really like politics.
“Everyone has seen the stuffy polls about who will win and lose. This way people get to vote with their appetites.”
The current tallies show Boris Johnson’s beef and stilton cheese effort leading the way with 46 per cent of the votes, followed by Ken Livingstone’s chilli burger on 29 per cent and Brian Paddick’s chicken satay burger on 15 per cent.
Siân Berry of the Green Party also has a burger comprising of lentils, green curry, potato and spring onion with salad and relish, but is sadly trailing with 10 per cent.
In April the Canary Wharf electorate were out in numbers to get stuck in to Boris, Ken or Brian at the launch. Game-for-a-laugh Paddick even arrived to take a bite out of himself.
After the launch here, the campaign trail then headed to the Tower Bridge branch of Gourmet Burger, where customers were able to order their favourites.
