Where to watch the london marathon in canary wharf and docklands

THE FLORA London Marathon hits the streets of east London in just over a week, with Greenwich, Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs all key parts of the route.

Around 36,000 brave souls take part in the event on Sunday, April 13, and there will be the usual raft of road closures and travel restrictions in place.

In Docklands, the following roads are all closed to traffic from 8am on April 13: Westferry Road, East Ferry Road, Marsh Wall, North Colonnade, Poplar High Street, Commercial Road, The Highway. All these roads should be reopened by 7pm.

The Greenwich foot tunnel will be closed southbound between 10am and noon on race day but will be open northbound. Free southbound DLR tickets from Island Gardens to Cutty Sark will be handed out by race marshals between these times.

With renovation work on the Cutty Sark ongoing after last year’s fire, spectators are advised not to watch the race there as space is severely limited.

But there are still plenty of places to catch all the action and cheer on friends and relatives, with many pubs laying on entertainment to keep you occupied while waiting for the runners.

The race starts at 9am when the elite women’s field sets off from Blackheath. Some key places on the route and the approximate times you can see the first runners, the elite women, and people running a 4h 30m pace, are:
Cutty Sark (6.5 miles): 9.30am, 10.46am;
Narrow Street (14 miles): 10.13am, 12.09pm;
Mudchute (17 miles): 10.29am, 12.40pm;
North Colonnade (19 miles): 10.40am, 1pm;
Commercial Road (21 miles): 10.50am, 1.20pm.
