Wharf football league won by greenwich clippers
It was trophy time for the best women’s five-a-side players in The Wharf Leagues.
Greenwich Clippers sailed to victory in the Women’s League, held at the David Beckham Academy. They finished 12 points clear of nearest rivals, College of Law Ladies, and were unbeaten for the entire season.
Clippers’ Mhari Wilson also collected the golden boot as top scorer, having netted 14 times during the campaign, one more than The Eagles’ Laura Melling. Consolation came for Melling when she was named player of the season.
The Men’s Leagues are still in full swing, with the top two sides in the Premiership meeting on Tuesday (April 8). Edwin Coe kept their two point lead over Revolution City as they played out a 1-1 draw.
FC Dynamo won their first game of the season with a 4-2 victory over bottom side Good on Paper, while Maple were awarded a 3-0 win over The People, following a late cancellation.
In the Championship The Dark Horses enjoyed a 5-2 win over Team Bond, allowing them to claim top spot. Matthew Thorbes and Chris Tucker scored two each.
Spanish Connection UK beat The Bank Street Boys 4-2, with Ross Worthington hitting a brace, while Kennedys took three points after The Red Tops failed to turn up for their game.
Whip-Em Wanderers’ good form continued in the Conference as they comfortably beat The Dictators 3-1.
