Reward offered to catch wharf cleaner's killers
POLICE have offered a £20,000 reward for information in the hunt for the killers of a Canary Wharf cleaner.
Ade Pukeliene was attacked close to her home in the early hours of February 28 following a night time shift at Lehman Brothers bank.
Grandmother Ade, 57, was just yards from her home in Emerald Close, E16, when she was mugged – possibly by two men seen disappearing on a scooter.
Det Insp Brian Mother, of the homicide and serious crime command at Barking, said: “Eight weeks on from Ade’s murder, we still need the public’s assistance in providing information that will assist us identifying her attackers.
“Ade was assaulted on her own doorstep whilst her young grandson was waiting for her to come home from work.
“This was a dreadful attack on a well-loved and respected grandmother, who had plans to dedicate more time to her family.”
Ade, who was originally from Lithuania but had been in the UK for two years, caught the Docklands Light Railway at Canary Wharf before getting off at Royal Albert station at 6.35am to begin a six-minute walk home.
Officers believe she was attacked and robbed of her handbag minutes later, before she died of head injuries.
The suspects have been described as black, about 5ft 6-8ins tall, and in their late teens to early twenties.
“We still need help in tracing the final route of the suspects on the scooter,” said DI Mother. “We believe the riders were seen travelling across the Beckton District Park at about 6.50am.
"This park has a number of exits and it is possible that the riders escaped along a neighbouring street or the A13. We urgently need to speak to anyone who may have further information and could have seen this scooter.”
The reward has been offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the prosecution of Ade’s killers.
Police are returning to the scene between April 21 and 25 to distribute posters and leaflets to the community.
They have also made an appeal for information on her handbag, which has not yet been found.
