Millwall almost safe

The away win at Hartlepool was hugely important.

The win on Saturday hasn’t yet guaranteed our safety in League One, but it was a pretty large step
towards it.

In fact, it even dragged a couple of other clubs back into the relegation dogfight.

The huge importance of the game was demonstrated by the supporters up there, who were all talking nervously in the pub before the game as to where we were going to get the points needed between now and the end of the season.

Despite the long away trip, Hartlepool is a great little place to visit, with a plenty of good pubs and a nice harbour to sit back and enjoy over a pint or two.

Back to the game, and it was one of those textbook Millwall away wins. Score early, miss several chances to go 2-0 ahead and then have to withstand a fraught last 20 minutes.

When the final whistle went, the players and supporters celebrated the victory as if we had just won the semi-finals of the FA Cup!

The players just need to take that performance into a tough home game against Leeds United.

There are no tickets on sale on the day of the match and, although it is not a members-only game, people have to prove they are Millwall supporters to be able to purchase a ticket.

At the Leeds United match, the supporters club will be collecting votes for the Player of the Season award.

Zak Whitbread and Danny Senda will surely place high up the voting, but I fully expect skipper Paul Robinson to win by a clear margin.

Robbo has been committed right from the start of the season and I’ve lost count of the amount of run-stopping tackles he has put in to prevent the opposition slicing right through the whole of our team.

Off the pitch, there have been more fun and games regarding the boardroom and the majority shareholder, Graham Ferguson Lacey.

Lacey has called for an EGM to table a motion that shareholders should be consulted regarding all decisions outside the ordinary course of trading or which could be of material significance.

With 43,000 different shareholders, this is just not feasible. If he damages our club he will have a lot of angry Millwall supporters after his blood!
