Film festivals rolling in london
The seventh East End Film Festival is launching at Bethnal Green's Rich Mix Centre tonight. The week-long event is just one of a reel of movie showcases screening in London this year, including the Canary Wharf and London film festivals.
The festivals will be visiting Wharf locations such as the Cineworld West India Quay, the East Wintergarden and the Museum in Docklands.
Here's a short run down of what to expect, and how to get involved.
EAST END FILM FESTIVAL
A GALA night at the Rich Mix Centre will kick off this year’s East End Film Festival tonight.
Roger Goldby’s Brit rom-com The Waiting Room will debut at the Bethnal Green venue this evening (Thursday, April 17) as the seventh festival swings into life.
The launch of the movie at 7pm – which features Rupert Graves, Ralf Little and ex-Shameless star Anne-Marie Duff – will be followed by a preview of Kaleidomorphism.
The cinematic collaboration between Chris Gollon and JABOD will appear at the Beach Blanket Gallery on Bethnal Green Road from 9.30pm.
A party will follow the installation. This year’s festival celebrates Eastern Europe as well as East London, with screenings of films from Poland, Russia, Estonia and the Czech Republic lined up for the week-long event.
Juno’s Oscar-nominated rising star Ellen Page will feature in both the road trip chronicle Mouth to Mouth and bleak city flick The Tracey Fragments, while London-born composer Michael Nyman will be stopping in for a few words on music in film.

CANARY WHARF FILM FESTIVAL
Fans of last year’s first Canary Wharf Film Festival will be able to watch the winning films once again for free at the Museum of Docklands next month.
The West India Quay venue will be showing all nine commended films from the event on May 1.
Documentary and animation stand-outs – including the carbon off-setting spoof Cheat Neutral and animation winner London After the Rain – will begin at around 6.45pm, while gripping drama The Cleaner will be among the dramas unveiled from 8.15pm.
Film-makers can submit films for the second festival in August until June 10. See www.cwff.org.uk for more details.
LONDON FILM FESTIVAL
There’s also still time to make the cut for the 52nd London Film Festival in October.
The British Film Institute event is accepting short films of less than 30 minutes until June 27, and features until July 11.
