THESE images show what the terminal at London City Airport should look like once work is completed next month.

The departure lounge is being redeveloped to allow for 250 more seats for passengers at the Royal Docks site, as well as more shops and an area with sports screens.

Work inside the terminal is taking place at the same time as £30million of investment is being made by the airport’s owners for new parking stands.

Richard Gooding OBE, chief executive of London City Airport, said: “Our contribution to London’s infrastructure is vital for it to maintain its role as a leading world city.

“The growth the airport has witnessed is largely credited to our convenient location on the doorstep of Canary Wharf and the City of London.

"Frequent fliers demand a premier service and our proven record of transferring passengers to their destinations with ease and speed has ensured their continued loyalty.”

The terminal work is due for completion in early May and will be followed by a new ‘airport concept’ bar at the end of the month. Free internet access will be available for passengers as well.

Another feature next month for outgoing passengers on airlines such as VLM, KLM and Swiss will be 12 self-service check-in desks.

Mr Gooding added: “London City Airport has grown in leaps and bounds since its opening in 1987 and the future is even more encouraging as more and more passengers travel from our east London hub.”

- City Airport is in the final shortlist of bidders for the airfield at Southend. Regional Airports said London City is one of seven confirmed in the fight to buy the facility.
