Reuters beat citigroup in city league rugby quarter-final
Reuters got the better of Canary Wharf rivals Citigroup in a keenly contested City League cup clash.
The plate competition match at Charlton Park saw the media company beat their banking neighbours 43 - 31 on Wednesday evening (March 26).
It was a game of two very different halves in wet and windy conditions. Citigroup led 24-5 at half-time and also scored first in the second period.
But Reuters took advantage of the infamous Charlton Park slope to control the game before running out comfortable winners.
Reuters now play either Nomura or Freshfields in the semi-final.
Elsewhere Goldman Sachs overcame UBS 34-7, despite playing without fifteen players.
GS arrived for the game at Blackheath without a full front row, which automatically handed UBS a seven point start.
Undeterred GS turned on the style to score five tries against their spirited opponents in a game reduced to 60 minutes because of the groundsman's worries about the pitch.
Goldman Sachs will meet JP Morgan or Allen and Overy in their semi-final.
