Flower shop is blooming again

AN ISLE of Dogs store has risen from the ashes and is back in business.

Cathy’s Flowers, in Manchester Road, was hit by an arson attack on May 1 last year which badly burned the shop front and left the rest of the premises, and the stock, severely smoke damaged. It’s taken nine months but the entire shop has now been refitted and restocked, and it reopened to customers on February 11.

Owner Cathy Holmes said business has been a bit slow although she’s confident things will improve once more people realise the shop is fully open.

“It’s been okay but not great,” she said. “We had Valentine’s day the first week we reopened and because I wasn’t sure what demand would be like I ordered 1,000 fewer roses than normal.
“But we sold out really quickly and I could have sold 1,000 more. They’d all gone by 11 o’clock.
“Since then it’s been a bit quiet, though, but the old customers have been coming in. They’ve said they are really pleased to see us again. It’s great to be back in business.”

The shop was first established in 1984 and has been serving the Isle of Dogs, and businesses in Canary Wharf, ever since.
