New haven for wharf shoppers

CANARY Wharf's latest shopping haven is flinging open its doors today (Thursday, March 13).

Fashion favourite Zara is among the star attractions at the Cabot Place West mall expansion, a new 40,000 square foot hub of shoe shops, clothing companies and top-class eateries.

Wharf shopaholics will be able to sate their cravings for bargains at stores such as River Island, fashionable footwear store Kate Kuba, Massimo Dutti, Hugo Boss and Reiss Accessories.

Other tenants include posh fast food outlet Leon, jewellers Brilliant Inc, Duchamp, Dune and Space NK. Lingerie outlet Myla will open next week.

Previous Cabot Place tenants Birley Soup and Salads and Cards Galore will also be returning. The Gentry barbershop, Cafe Brera and The White Company are already on site.

A flagship two-floor bar and restaurant will also be delighting diners in the summer. With over 8,800 square feet of dining space, Pacific Oriental's Soleil Levant will be one of the biggest restaurants in the Wharf, and will occupy the site of the former Cabot Hall arts venue.
The mall area will add to the 700,000 square foot of retail in other sections of the estate. Work on the scheme began in 2006.

Canary Wharf Group's vice president of retail Camille Waxer said: "We're a big shopping destination now, and we want people who work and visit the Wharf to feel that they don't have to make the trip into the West End.
"We need to continue to expand and introduce more shops so that Wharf visitors and workers don't need to queue."

CWG also announced plans for the expansion of Canada Square pavilion, a 23,000 square foot two-storey extension with a roof terrace. The year-long construction project will begin after the Canary Wharf Motorexpo ends on June 15. Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens will bring Tom's Kitchen to the pavilion, along with high-end Japanese restaurant Roka. Lloyds TSB will also move east from Cabot Place, alongside two unconfirmed restaurants.

Work will begin on replacing One Canada Square's west desk stairs with an unconfirmed food outlet at the end of the month. A building around the outside of Churchill Place will accommodate an expanded Barclays space, a bar-led outlet and a new concept restaurant.
CWG confirmed it was still negotiating with Tower Hamlets Council on plans to swap two levels of car parking at Jubilee Place mall for extra retail space.
