IT’S GOING down to the wire – the final title in the Wharf Leagues is still up for grabs with just a week left.

The latest round of matches at the David Beckham Academy on Tuesday night (February 19) saw Edwin Coe and Revolution City stay neck-and-neck for the Men’s A League crown.

Revolution beat the Dark Horses, representing Lloyds TSB, 4-2 while Edwin Coe also won three points after their opponents failed to turn up. KFC beat FC Dynamo 4-1 and Maple beat Forester 4-2. Forester’s Paul Alexander looks set to pick up the golden boot, having bagged 23 goals this season.

South London Lions, who wrapped up the B League title last week, dropped their first points of the season, drawing 2-2 with the Red Tops, from the Sunday Mirror. Rory Smith scored both goals for the Mirror.

OFF United leapfrogged Credit Suisse into second place after a 3-2 victory over the Wharf-based bank.
Gary Shepherd of OFF United is favourite for the golden boot and player-of-the-season award having scored 25 goals already this season.

RIP Hatseat, champions of the C League, beat Electric Word 4-3 in a highly entertaining match. Second-placed Lehman Galacticos put seven goals past Athletico Misfits with Sean Richardson scoring six.

In the Women’s League the Eagles soared into second place with a 9-0 thrashing of the Daily Mirror.
The Mirror, missing some key players, struggled to contain Laura Melling, who hit five goals. She is now joint-top of the hot-shots table with 12 goals, alongside Mhairi Wilson of champions Greenwich Clippers.

Spaces are available for the second season, which kicks off on March 4. Readers of The Wharf are entitled to a five per cent discount on league entry when quoting code WH0801.
