Tring2town 40-mile run completed by canary wharf solicitor
EVEN an unscheduled detour could not prevent San Chima easily beating his target time on his 40-mile
ultra-marathon.
San, 49, a managing partner at Adams Solicitors in One Canada Square, was taking on the Tring2Town challenge and aimed to finish the race within 10 hours.
Despite police closing off part of the route he did it with over an hour to spare.
“It was a good race, nice scenery, all along the Thames towpath to Brentford,” said the marathon man.
“But there was a scary moment at the end of the towpath when there was a temporary closure because police had found a dead body, so we had to divert along a couple of streets before making it back on to the towpath.”
Despite the grim discovery on a cold February morning San was able to post a finishing time of eight hours and 45 minutes.
“I thought 10 hours would have been acceptable but I’m really pleased with my time,” he said.
Although he has run six marathons before, the gruelling race on Sunday, February 3, was the longest distance he has ever taken on.
A total of 354 people were scheduled to race, but only 270 actually finished it. San ran on the second day of the weekend, along with 120 others.
“If you thought I was mad, some people did the race both days,” he said. “Maybe I’ll do that next year.”
He took on the challenge for Red Cross, raising around £500 towards the appeal to help victims of the cyclone that struck Bangladesh in November 2006.
He decided to help the appeal as his company’s office in Whitechapel has many clients from the Bangladeshi community. Next on the super-athlete’s agenda is the London to Brighton race in October – only 54 miles.
