Hsbc marathon runner goes nowhere

13feb7runner.jpgRUNNING a marathon is daunting enough but imagine covering the distance and not moving an inch.

That’s the challenge Kyle Coveny, from HSBC Private Bank, set himself when he ran the full 26 miles and 385 yards on a treadmill in Canada Place mall on Wednesday, January 30.

But Kyle’s efforts running on the spot were not in vain as it was all in a good cause, raising money for St Alfege with St Peter’s primary school in Greenwich.

He clocked a very respectable 3 hours 37 minutes 2 seconds, raising £762 in the process. Children from the school were on hand to lend him some much-needed support as well as take donations from passers-by.

After completing the challenge a tired Kyle said: “The support was amazing, especially the kids from the school, who were there to cheer me through the halfway point. That gave me a much-needed boost of energy during a tough section of the marathon.

“Many thanks to my colleagues for their support and encouragement, and for collecting donations. The event wouldn’t have been possible without their help. And a special thanks to all those who sponsored me, helping raise money which will be put to good use at St Alfege’s.”

The cash will go towards work on transforming a “magic garden” outdoor green space at the school. HSBC Private Bank’s 2007 graduate intake, which included Kyle, were challenged to raise £2,000 towards the project and have exceeded that target by over 75 per cent, with £3,087 raised so far.
