Dlr sex attacker jailed
A SERIAL sex attacker has been jailed for assaulting women on the Docklands Light Railway.
Christopher Cutler, 50, groped three passengers after sneaking up behind them on trains last year.
He was jailed for four months running consecutively for each assault, adding up to 12 months in prison when he appeared at Southwark Crown Court for sentencing last Friday (February 15).
Cutler’s victims reported him to the police and he was identified by CCTV footage. He was arrested last June after being spotted at Blackheath railway station by an off-duty officer from the Metropolitan Police.
The first assault took place on the DLR on April 25, 2007, when he tried to undo a woman’s skirt as the train travelled between Limehouse and Bank.
Two more incidents took place on June 21, one on the DLR between Lewisham and Canary Wharf and another on the Central line. The victims included a 14-year-old schoolgirl whom he groped from behind.
Det Con Jane Hill of the British Transport Police said: “CCTV on the platforms and onboard the trains allowed us to get clear facial images of Cutler and link him to the crimes.
“I would like to thank all the victims and witnesses who came forward because with their help it was possible for us to quickly identify Cutler as the offender. Everyone has the right to travel and go about their business without being subjected to this sort of assault and the one-year sentence handed down on Friday shows just how seriously this type of crime is treated by BTP and the courts.
It was revealed in court that in 1996 Cutler had also been convicted for an indecent assault where he threatened to rape a victim, but was spared jail.
