WHARFERS are being invited to get on their bikes to help raise money for a very worthwhile cause.

The “Chaucer Challenge”, a 75-mile cycle ride from Greenwich to Canterbury, is taking place on Sunday, September 14, in aid of the Children’s Trust.

Starting in Greenwich Park, the route winds through the scenic Kent countryside, including the Pilgrims’ Way, and finishes in Canterbury, where a picnic lunch will be provided at St Augustine’s Abbey for participants.

Ceri Owens, events fundraiser at The Children’s Trust, said: “This exciting and exhilarating cycle ride should appeal to experienced road cyclists. It’s a great way for them to enjoy a challenging ride and at the same time have fun helping to raise money for some very special children.

“Last year over 100 cyclists took part but we are expecting many more to join up this year, particularly from cycling clubs.”

Entry is £22.50 per cyclist, or £105 for a team of five. Information packs with advice on training and fundraising will be provided to participants.

The Children’s Trust is a national charity providing care, education and therapy for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs.

For further details contact Ceri Owens on 01737 365017, email cycling@thechildrenstrust.org.uk, or visit the website www.thechildrenstrust.org.uk.

The Trust’s current appeal aims to raise over £7million to build a national rehabilitation centre for children with acquired brain injuries. To make a credit or debit card donation, call 01737 365027.
