Antenatal classes for mums on the run

WEEKEND antenatal sessions are being launched for busy working mums-to-be.

The classes will start on March 1 and run on Saturday afternoons at the new Barkantine Health Clinic in Westferry Road.

Annie Muckley, from complementary health clinic The Quiet Space in Cannon Workshops, said: “Many Canary Wharf workers are putting in such long hours they can’t make our evening classes. Some are squeezing in a gym class during the day, but are returning to a long stint at the desk which isn’t healthy for anyone and certainly not during pregnancy.

“A specialised antenatal class leaves a woman relaxed and energised. It also increases
stamina, strength and fitness as well as providing support.”

The Saturday session, which will be run by The Quiet Space’s experienced teachers, will also give working Wharf husbands the chance to attend with their partners.

Annie added: “Our teachers note a marked difference between the lack of health and enjoyment experienced by the average Canary Wharf pregnancy compared to other locations where they teach. Naturally, many of these women are high achievers and continue pressing on with their pre-pregnancy work and attempt to mould their pregnancy into their fitness training.

“The only issue with that is that it drains rather than energises.”

The classes cost £40 for four or £13 each and take place at the new clinic, which is home to a state-of-the-art birthing centre.

Bookings should be made by phone to The Quiet Space by Friday each week. Call 020 7537 6166.
