Ideal christmas present for hammers supporters

WHAT do you get that West Ham fan in your life for Christmas?
The answer could be West Ham United - The Managers, a superb new book from Football World, the publishers of the popular EX magazine. And The Wharf has a copy of the book - signed by Hammers legend Billy Bonds - to give away.
The book is a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the men who have steered the club's fortunes over the years. From Syd King through to Alan Curbishley, this labour of love is packed with anecdotes and rarely-seen photographs, and contributions from many of the managers themselves as well as a host of former players.

Bonds, who managed the club for four years in the early 1990s, is one of just 11 full-time managers who have occupied the Upton Park hotseat since the club was founded. His reign saw the Irons relegated, win promotion to the Premier League and reach the FA Cup semi-final in 1991.
The book lifts the lid on his occasionally troubled relationship with his players, as well as his controversial departure from the club when he was ousted in favour of former team-mate Harry Redknapp.
Bonds had already made his name as a player, pulling on the claret and blue jersey 793 times during his 21-year career at the club. During that time he captained the team to FA Cup success in 1975 and 1980.
To be in with a chance of winning just answer this simple question: How many games did Billy Bonds play for West Ham?
Send your answer and full contact details to Hammers Competition, The Wharf, Trinity Mirror, 22nd Floor, One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5AP or email newsdesk@wharf.co.uk. Closing date for entries is Thursday, December 20.
Should you not be lucky enough to win this fantastic prize then you can buy copies of the book from Football World. For more details see www.ex-hammers.com. [25cf] On the field the Hammers are looking to continue their recent good run of form over the festive season.
This Saturday (December 15) sees Everton return to Upton Park, just three days after the sides met in the Carling Cup. Last weekend's win at
Blackburn pushed the Irons up to 10th in the table with a game in hand.
Winnable games against Middlesbrough and Reading are to come and there is every chance West Ham could be pushing for a top six spot in the new year.
With the likes of Dean Ashton and Freddie Ljungberg returning to action manager Alan Curbishley's squad is looking healthier than it has for some time. One shadow cast across his plans, however, is Craig Bellamy's ongoing battle to overcome a persistent abdominal problem.
Curbishley, who celebrates one year as Hammers' boss today (December 13), admitted he has a tough choice, and could lose the 28-year-old Welshman for up to two months.
"We have to decide this week where we are going to go with Craig," he said.
"We have to decide whether to continue with the route we are going down which, if it is successful, will result in a shorter route.
"Or we may have to go down the surgery route which will be a longer one. If that is the case I can't put a time-frame on it."
The Wharf went to press before last night's Carling Cup match with Everton at Upton Park.
