A MAN was nearly bludgeoned with a two-foot iron bar in an attempted robbery on Friday (August 31).
The 37-year-old Isle of Dogs resident had just got off the D6 bus outside All Saints Church at around 9.55pm when he noticed two males loitering.
He was accosted near the end of Poplar High Street by the men, who demanded a cigarette, a lighter, a mobile phone and some money. One of the men grabbed the victim by the T-shirt, ripped it and punched him in the shoulder.

He then pulled the iron bar from his jeans waistband and attempted to club the man over the head, but the victim blocked the blow.
The second attacker then delved into the victim's pocket, pulling out #500 in cash. The men then fled.
One robber is described as a black male, 5ft 10ins, big build, wearing a blue T-shirt, black trousers and trainers. The second man is described as a black male, 5ft 3ins, medium build, wearing a cream T-shirt and brown trousers. Both had stone studs in their ears and nose.
The men are aged between 18 and 20. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con Richard Rowlerson of the Robbery Squad on 020 8217 3838 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
