The Wharf's 4:30pm travel update

At the moment, Tube, roads and river are not reporting any problems.

However, the bad news is that the Oyster card difficulties of this morning have been sorted out, so now free travel for some of you.

Also keep in mind the weekend travel disruption, which sees the Jubilee line suspended between North Greenwich and Stratford and the DLR suspended between Canary Wharf and Lewisham. This begins tomorrow.

Oyster failure hits London again

CHAOS hit the underground system at rush-hour on Friday when for the Oyster card system failed.

It is the second time this month Tube stations have been hit by problems with the cards.

Passengers at Canary Wharf were told not to "touch in and out" at the sensors but to walk through the open barriers.

The travel outlook is mixed for Wharfers on Thursday, July 24.

Jubilee line is running without problems, although there are minor delays on the the Circle and District lines.

The DLR is also running with severe delays due to a signal failure at Bank.

And if you are traveling south by car this evening then be aware that part of Greenwich High Road is closed due to a gas leak. Also expect congestion around the Excel Centre late on because of visitors to the Motor Show.

THE WARTIME sacrifice of two female firefighters has been honoured in the naming of a new Isle of Dogs development.

Swan Housing’s residential overhaul of the former Millwall Fire Station in Westferry Road will feature two blocks named after teenagers Violet Pengelly and Joan Bartlett.

The young pair were among those who lost their lives during a bomb attack at the height of the blitz.

A BENEVOLENT millionaire has secured the future of the Jubilee Sailing Trust with a huge donation.

Former IT guru Peter Harrison, who also recently saved the Royal Observatory in Greenwich with a cash injection, returned to Docklands on Monday to give £1.5million to the trust.

A GROCER who confessed to illegally selling sex drugs over the internet has been spared jail.

Hafid Essadki, 39, from the Isle of Dogs, was ordered to pay £2,500 in fines and costs at Snaresbrook Crown Court for selling Viagra and Cialis without a licence yesterday (Wednesday).

A SMOOTH journey home awaits Wharfers this evening.

With good services running on all Tube lines, no problems on the roads and a trouble-free river, commuters should find few difficulties in getting off the Wharf.

Crossrail gets official clearance

LONDON'S ambitious Crossrail project has finally received the green light from MPs.

The bill detailing the plans for the £16billion rail link was given royal assent yesterday evening after clearing its third reading in the House of Lords.
